Happy six month anniversary to Devin and Michael who were wed on August 22nd at Saltwater Farm Vineyard.

Before walking down the aisle, Devin got a pre “I do” smooch from her favorite four-legged friend.

Although the forecast for the weekend was unsettled the weather held and Devin and Michael were married  outside, among the vines, surrounded by family and friends – and one rather large bridal party.

Inside, doggy-detailed escort cards were a perfect touch, as were the wildflower florals and neutral linens.

The indoor space was further complemented by hanging vintage lanterns, a first for Saltwater Farm.

The rain stayed at bay and guests were able to enjoy the late summer evening outside by the fire pit.

Valentine’s Day Ideas

For all you last minute love birds out there, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Here are a few local inspired ideas for V-Day that will have your honey smiling from ear to ear.

The Perfect Card

Salt Shop and Press has the most original, fun spirited cards (and so much more) at their store in Mystic. Especially loving the “You had me at merlot” tote… why didn’t we think of that?

Chocolate

I had the opportunity to try Chocolate Shots, an Essex, CT based company, at an event this past weekend. Oh my goodness were they good. To put it simply, it is the inside of a truffle served in a shot glass to be eaten with a spoon and is enough to share (or not). They can be ordered online here and are made and shipped the same day. With flavors including Raspberry Kiss and Red Hot Lover these treats are sure to please any chocolate lovin’ Valentine.

Want the whole truffle? Check out Zest Pastry in the Velvet Mill in Stonington, CT for hand rolled truffles, chocolate dipped sea salt caramels, individual flourless cakes, red velvet cakes, chocolate dipped strawberries and so much more. You can drop in during their regular business hours or call ahead and place an order to pick up. There is also a great Farmer’s Market Saturday mornings in the same building, 10am to 1pm, so you can grab some greens and some sweets all in one stop!

Wine

Although Saltwater Farm Vineyard is closed for the season that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of other good local wine to be enjoyed. This Thursday Stonington Vineyards will host their 2013 Cabernet Franc release party. Tickets are $25 per person and include a glass of the new vintage, dessert pairings by SIFT Bakeshop of Mystic and live music by Reckless Blues. Tickets can be purchased in advance on their website here.

COASTAL WINE TRAIL VINTNER’S TICKET ON SALE!

Saltwater Farm Vineyard may be closed for the season but many of our fellow wine trail members are pouring all through the winter. Having two wine trails in the area (the Connecticut Wine Trail which kicks off its passport program in May and the Coastal Wine Trail where you can collect stamps year-round) there are certainly plenty of places to visit even if you can’t sip with us (we will be back soon enough…).

Last year was Saltwater Farm’s first participating in the Coastal Wine Trail, which includes the 14 vineyards and wineries in CT, RI and MA within close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. Our shared southeast facing coastline captures the warm gulf stream waters in the summer and fall making this cool grape growing region a touch more mild than points further inland.

The Coastal Wine Trail is again offering a killer deal that will pay for itself in just a few stops. The Costal Wine Trail Vintner’s Ticket is available for purchase for just $99 and includes tastings for two people at each of the 14 stops on the trail (valued at $298, what a deal!). The Vintner’s Ticket can be purchased online here. Tickets can only be purchased online so make sure you order them in advance to your wine trail excursion.

Also, be sure to mark your calendar for the annual Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Market on June 18th at the Westport Fairgrounds in Westport, MA. Taste wines from all the Coastal Wine Trail members alongside local cheese, chocolate, honey and artisan bread from Southeastern New England. Small sessions and personal conversations with the owners and winemakers make this a unique experience. Tickets on sale soon!

We will of course keep you posted on our reopening, planned for some time in April, TBA. Until then, maybe we will see you at one of the other local wineries,

Cheers to the wine trails!
