Although Saltwater Farm takes the winter off from pouring wine, weekends during the off-season are often spent sharing our space with couples who are seeking a venue for their big day. While the indoor space remains the same season to season, the vineyard changes quite a bit over the course of the year. Starting with our quietest wedding season, winter, we will take a look at our beautiful backyard thru the seasons.

Although we do not do many winter weddings, they do have a distinctive look and feel. Most notably, bare vines, lots of night sky (it gets dark so much earlier this time of year), the possibility of snowflakes and, of course, a great opportunity to wear fur!

Its not often but we do occasionally have a little snow on the vines as backdrop for our brides and grooms. Just check out these photos from Alana and Andre’s wedding a few winters back.

Liza and Chris’s wedding is a perfect example of our indoor space being able to seamlessly accommodate the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception all indoors.

Early Spring

Thinking of waiting until early spring to tie the knot? Keep in mind that while the grass gets greener and the world is “coming to life” in late March and April it isn’t until the middle of May that the vines show signs of growth. Check out these two picture perfect April weddings.

We couldn’t be happier for our friends Carlos and Courtney and their team at Biologic+ who have just opened their second location on Cottrell Street in downtown Mystic.

Offering many of the same juices and smoothies the Saltwater Farm family have been enjoying since they opened their flagship location in early 2015 (lucky us, just around the corner from the Vineyard in the Velvet Mill) their new Mystic location includes additional offerings and space to relax.

The new juice bar is equipped with an espresso machine serving up shots and cappuccino and is the key to their Mocha Latte smoothie- an ultra healthy, dairy-free blend of espresso, chia seeds, lucuma, vanilla, coconut and cinnamon.

Their grab and go refrigerator offers pre-made cold pressed juices including a year-round favorite Washboard Lemonade that is promised to “kick your cold in the butt” and includes interesting ingredients like pears, ginger, cayenne and turmeric.

They also have some other ready to go goodies like salads and gazpacho and even a raw Key Lime pie.

Inside the juice bar there are two stylish seating areas ideal for a post-workout meet-up with the girls and outside they’re just a stones throw from the dock on the Mystic River which offers several benches to sip, sit and relax in the sun.

This time around I opted for a Berry Detox smoothie which thanks to the balance of berries with pea protein (and I think maybe a bit of beet) is a “not so guilty pleasure.”

Cheers to the entire B+ crew on a truly A+ job,

If you’re feeling a little like Pooh and me and have been really enjoying your winter, a Biologic+ juice cleanse might the just the jump-start your diet needs to get your back on track. Check out our past post on B+ here and visit their website for more info on ordering your cleanse.

And although the dogs aren’t big wine drinkers, these repurposed wine barrel doggy beds and food bowl from Rock Creek Furniture Co. will be a hit with the pups as well as compliment rustic home decor.

We might not be there quite yet but we so do look forward to enjoying a glass of wine outdoors. This simple “libation station” is often used at Saltwater Farm as a refreshment stand for arriving guests but could easily be translated into something for summertime backyard entertaining.
